The EDOR-5E modules can be equipped with or without a data logger (EDOR-5E or EDOR-5E/DLOG). The data logger is intended for collecting trace data from the integrated MT5-E radio module within the RIU-ETCS.
One to four EDOR-5E modules are mounted in an approved and certified 19“ standard rack as required The radio module uses a Release 04 GSM standard, connection-orientated and packet-orientated data are possible. The EDOR-5E fulfils the latest specification for improved receiver parameters ETSI TS 102 933 V2.1.1.
On the initiative of the EU, the European railways have introduced ETCS (European Train Control System) as a standardised train control system. This standard is intended to ensure European interoperability with a high level of reliability and safety in rail transport. In addition to many other operational and technical advantages, ETCS enables economical operation, higher speeds and better route utilisation.
ETCS Level 1 is realised by discontinuous track/vehicle communication using Euro balises or track loops and the existing signalling systems. Track signalling is not required for Levels 2 and 3. Train control is realised via continuous GSM-R data communication between the control centre and the vehicle.
The train equipment requires for ETCS Level 2 and 3 at least two radio subsystems for GSM-R data independent of the GSM-R voice communication system.
