We are developing 5G and FRMCS access radio solutions for retrofitting existing motive power units, as well as complete solutions for new vehicles. We already have with our new product line MESA all:nexo innovative and proven FRMCS train radio solutions. The series all:nexo is geared towards the future of rail communication and is available in various versions.
The all:nexo series systems support 5G/FRMCS natively whilst train radio systems of the series MESA all:nexo multimode can be configured to be backward compatible with previous communication standards through already available GSM-R or analog radio modules.
With the introduction of FRMCS, we will provide certified TSI CCS-compliant FRMCS onboard systems. The current plans of the EU Commission envisage creating the legal framework for the introduction and approval of FRMCS by 2028 and subsequently enabling the technology rollout. Our MESA all:nexo train radio solutions are technically capable of meeting the standard, which is still being finalised, even today. Funkwerk is significantly involved in the standardisation process, development and testing for the introduction of FRMCS, and is active in European bodies.
MESA all:nexo >>From 11 September 2026, the first obligations of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) will come into force. Are you already prepared? If not, we can support you with RMX all:nexo – of the open CRA solution for third-party onboarding systems and Funkwerk products.
With RMX all:nexo depend on a central resilience management system that supports you in fulfilling the CRA requirements – from managing your devices to the secure management of software updates and vulnerabilities.

Our MESA all:nexo solution is used for voice and data transmission in public and private 5G networks. The radio module is connected directly to the vehicle's electrical system and operated via the supplied touchscreen control unit.
Incl. power supply, handset and microphone
For quick and compact installation in locomotive and driving vehicle cockpits, we have developed a compact 5G-based cab radio, which is fully housed within a standardised double-DIN enclosure.
In addition to an integrated eSIM, it can be operated with a publicly available SIM card and is designed as an all-in-one unit for permanent installation in vehicles. Thus, the MESA all:nexo compact is also for regional public transport Suitable.
The MESA all:nexo compact enables 3G, 4G, and 5G mobile voice and data services, including the capability for Mission-Critical Applications (MCX/FRMCS).
At the heart of the MESA all:nexo multimode is a modular central unit for 5G/FRMCS networks. To ensure backward compatibility with previous radio standards, the system can be expanded with further radio modules. For example, with a variety of our GSM-R radio modules for international use and/or expansion units for analogue radio. The system has a universal system architecture and is expandable via uniform and standardised interfaces and modules.
The train radio solution for the future of rail communication masters relevant train radio standards. In a single modular system.
With RMX all:nexo rely on a central resilience management system that supports you in meeting CRA requirements – from managing your devices to the secure management of software updates and vulnerabilities. A centrally managed overview of your rolling stock, devices, software, approvals and evidence in an open ecosystem for the railway sector.
The challenge in operating railway vehicles is the objective to ensure operations at all times. A multitude of influences can jeopardise this objective. These include, for example, IT security issues, expiring or missing certifications, regulatory changes, equipment or spare parts obsolescence, as well as the loss or change of suppliers. Each vehicle bundles many multi-level dependencies in one place. Any change can jeopardise the safe and authorised operation of the vehicle.
To quickly and precisely identify problems, provide solutions and continue to ensure the safe operation of the vehicle, a system is needed that provides an immediate overview:

Devices
Software

Typical problems and the benefits of RMX all:nexo
The lack of an overview of equipment, software versions and vulnerabilities in the operators' tractive units is problematic in an emergency and considerably increases the personnel and time required. With RMX all:nexo create a central fleet overview, manage updates clearly and with documentation, and generally ensure clean and traceable compliance governance
Vehicle manufacturers in particular bear a complex responsibility for numerous subsystems and suppliers. RMX all:nexo ensures end-to-end system transparency and consistent audit trails.
Different individual processes and requirements of customers present component suppliers with organisational challenges. The standardised provision of updates, SBOMs and vulnerability information in RMX all:nexo ensures clear structures.
Information losses pose a risk across multiple stages of the supply chain. RMX all:nexo ensures a traceable transfer of security and product information.
For system integrators, it offers RMX all:nexo unified multi-vendor integration and governance layers.
Many service tools and hard-to-control device access pose a problem for service organisations. With RMX all:nexo diagnostic and service access is secure and role-based.
The digital CV file of RMX all:nexo and a traceable compliance status provides leasing companies and asset owners with transparency regarding the condition and lifecycle of the vehicles.
Authorities and certification bodies require structured, auditable and traceable evidence. RMX all:nexo brings clarity to the fragmented and manually verified evidence.
