Funkwerk receives two orders from SBB

Kölleda, 17 March 2014 - Funkwerk AG has been commissioned by the Swiss Federal Railways SBB AG to supply a total of 150 so-called platform displays and 100 TFT monitors. The installation of the dynamic visual displays, which are distributed throughout Switzerland and provide travellers with information on rail operations such as departure, arrival and disruption messages, is expected to take place over the next three years.

With this order, Funkwerk AG has taken another important step towards the internationalisation of its business segment and now covers the entire DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) as a supplier of passenger information systems. Once the project has been successfully completed, there is also an option to expand the delivery volume to the same extent.

The modern platform displays from Funkwerk are based on LCD technology and display information such as the next departure, the formation of the train and any exception or fault messages. The platform displays are used both on the platform, i.e. outdoors, and in indoor areas such as station and reception halls and passenger subways.

In contrast, the TFT monitors provide a complete overview of the next 15 arrivals or departures at the station in chronological order. At the same time, delays, cancellations or other deviations from regular operations can be announced. Integrated in a vandal-proof housing, the TFT monitors are suitable for wall or ceiling mounting as well as for use in columns and are usually installed in subways, small halls, station forecourts, travel centres, service operations or lounges.

SBB AG transports around 354 million passengers a year and, with a route network of 3138 kilometres, holds a large share of Switzerland's railway network. With the displays from Funkwerk AG, SBB can not only provide its passengers with up-to-date and comprehensive information, but also reduce its operating and life cycle costs.
